Iran’s parliament has said that the armed forces of European countries are now considered as terrorist groups by Iran. This step came after the EU added Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to its list of terrorist groups.
The European Union made this decision because it says the IRGC was involved in violent acts and human rights violations, especially when it cracked down on big protests inside Iran. Many European leaders called this step “long overdue” and said it was necessary because of the IRGC’s actions.
In response, Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said on Sunday that under Iranian law, the armies of European countries are now considered as terrorist groups. He said this action was a kind of retaliation against the EU’s move to list the IRGC as a terrorist group. The speaker also warned that the Europe would be responsible for the outcome of this decision.
In a session at the Iranian parliament in Tehran, many lawmakers showed support for the IRGC by wearing its uniforms. They also shouted slogans against the United States and Europe. This was done to show support for the IRGC and to oppose the Europe’s decision.
Iran’s step to call European armies as terrorist groups is based on a 2019 law that allows political counters after other countries consider Iran’s forces as terrorist groups. This law says that when someone lists the IRGC as a terrorist group, Iran can respond in the same way.
The European Union’s decision to call the IRGC a terrorist group was supported by all 27 member states. European leaders said that the IRGC’s role in cracking down against protests and other actions made this step necessary. Leaders like Kaja Kallas, the Europe’s foreign policy chief, said that unfair actions cannot be ignored and European countries must stand up for human rights.
The IRGC has existed since Iran’s 1979 revolution and has become a powerful military and political force in the country. Before the Europe’s decision, different Western nations, including the United States, had already listed the IRGC as a terrorist group. The Europe’s action was seen as a major diplomatic step that could make relations with Iran even more tense.
Iran’s official statement that European armies are terrorist groups is mostly symbolic because it does not automatically change how EU military forces work around the world. It mainly affects diplomatic relations between Iran and European countries.
Germany said Iran’s action has no basis and is made for political reasons. German leaders said the EU decision to call the IRGC as a terrorist group was correct, and They also said that Iran’s response would not change the Europe’s position.
This situation happens during bigger tensions between Iran and Western countries, including the United States and European members. These issues have increased because of world politics and disagreements about human rights and nuclear programs.
Iran’s parliament also mentioned that it might take additional actions, such as asking European military officials to leave Iran. But nothing is finalized yet.
The statement from Iran shows that how diplomatic relations between Iran and Europe are becoming more tense. The problem started with the Europe’s action against the IRGC, and Iran’s response shows a new step in political tension between Iran and Western nations.
As a result of these actions, countries around the world are paying attention to how Iran and the EU will deal each other in future. Many analysts say that this situation could affect international discussions on security, trade, and regional peace efforts.
