Lamborghini, the famous Italian supercar maker, has stopped its plan to build its first fully electric car because of low demand and high cost. This electric model was called the Lanzador and was expected to go on sale around 2029. However, after reviewing market interest and production expenses, the company recently decided to close this project.

The CEO of Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann said that building a fully electric car for Lamborghini could become very costly because most of the company’s customers are not interested in electric cars right now. He told The Sunday Times that buyer interest has been almost zero, and many Lamborghini customers still prefer the sound and driving feel of traditional engines.

“Lamborghini first revealed the Lanzador as a concept in 2023. However, after speaking with customers and dealers, and carefully reviewing market demand for more than a year, the company decided to cancel this project. Instead, Lamborghini plans to offer a plug-in hybrid version of the car, which will use both gasoline and electric power to provide performance and efficiency together.

The CEO said that Lamborghini will continue making its famous gasoline engines for as long as possible. He explained that Lamborghini customers want a strong emotional connection with their cars. At the moment, electric motors do not give the same feeling, excitement, or thrilling roar that customers experience from a classic Lamborghini engine.

Lamborghini is not completely leaving the electric car market. Winkelmann said the company will continue working on electric technology and may build fully electric cars in the future if there is enough demand for them. But for now, Lamborghini will focus on producing plug-in hybrid cars rather than a fully electric model.

The Lanzador EV was shown as a high-end electric supercar that would follow the brand’s tradition of performance and speed. But as Lamborghini found that its rich customers were not interested in buying a fully electric sports car, this caused the company to cancel this project.

Instead of the electric Lanzador, Lamborghini will add more plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to its lineup over the coming years. This change shows that Lamborghini will use both gasoline and electric power to meet customer choices and future environmental standards.

Other major car makers are also changing their electric car plans because demand for luxury electric vehicles is still low. Lamborghini’s decision shows that even the most well-known car brands need to adjust their plans and strategies when buyers are not yet ready to switch fully to electric cars.

Winkelmann explained that the company will keep working on hybrid technology and continue making cars with regular engines. This decision affects how Lamborghini designs its next generation of cars and how the brand maintains its traditional style while also including modern technology and features.

“This change in Lamborghini’s plans is an important step for the company. It shows that Lamborghini will focus more on hybrid cars while keeping the brand’s famous engine sound. At the same time, the company will work on new technologies to make cars that meet future needs.
