New transport service center starting to serve local community

A new computer‑generated animation has been released that shows what the St Helens Transport Interchange will look like once it is finished. The animation gives people a clear idea of the new transport hub that is being built in the heart of St Helens town centre in the United Kingdom.
The St Helens Transport Interchange is part of a major project to improve travel in the town centre. It will replace the old bus station and create a modern, welcoming place for people to catch buses, walk, cycle, and connect to trains.
The CGI animation shows a fully enclosed building with warm, covered waiting areas and easy paths for people to move around. It also highlights how buses, trains, and walking paths will connect in one place. The animation helps residents see what the future transport centre will look like before its completion.
This project has planning permission and funding secured by local leaders. The main work is supported by the funding of £32 million from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, with extra support from the UK government and the St Helens Borough Council.
The new interchange is being built by VINCI Building and ECF, a team made up of Homes England, Legal & General, and Muse. The facility will have 11 bus stands, up from the nine in the old station. It will also include features like easy access without steps for people who move with difficulty, real‑time information screens, and secure indoor and outdoor cycle parking.
Designers are also planning a new Travel Centre and accessible toilets, including a Changing Places facility for people who need extra space and support. The building will be fully enclosed and temperature‑controlled, so people can stay comfortable while waiting for buses or trains.
A key part of the plan is to make the area around the interchange greener and more welcoming. The design includes gardens and green areas, a new community space, better lighting, and places where people can safely walk or sit. The square will sit near historic local buildings like the Gamble Building and the Theatre Royal.
Local people were asked for their feedback on the plans before approval, and many supported the project. The new animation helps show how feedback has been included in the design to meet the needs of local residents.
Construction work is already in progress, with ground preparation and foundation work in progress. Once fully built, the interchange will make travel easier and safer for people using public transport in the town.
The project is part of a larger plan to regenerate St Helens town centre, bringing new life and better facilities for residents and visitors. The transport hub is expected to finish in time for the first franchised bus services to start serving the area,
In simple terms, the new CGI animation gives a clear look at the future St Helens Transport Interchange and shows off the modern features, improved travel links, and public spaces that will make moving around the town easier and more comfortable.
