Romania is going to host a big global competition in business and finance for the first time. This event is called the International Business and Finance Olympiad (IBFO), and it will bring together high school students from all over the world to compete in business and finance challenges. Romania has never held this event before, so this is a big moment for the country.
High school students who love economics, business, and financial topics can apply to be part of Romania’s national team for this competition. They applications remain open until 16, 2026. which helps to find and train the best students to represent Romania in a major international contests.
The National Selection Program prepares students for four big events: the International Economics Olympiad, the World Economics Cup, the International Business Olympiad, and the International Business and Finance Olympiad. The whole program is managed by the Romanian Center for Excellence in Economics (RECE), which works with schools and experts to help students train and get ready.
With the support of RECE, Romania will welcome teams from different countries to join the International Business and Finance Olympiad. For the first time, Romanian students will take part in this event. Students can take part for free and will get training that follows international rules and standards.
Joining this program offers students many advantages. They get organized training that teaches them more than regular school classes. They also get guidance and tips from experts in economics and finance, which can help them in the future, especially when applying to colleges. Students who perform well may get the opportunity to represent Romania in international competitions.
If Romania gets extra funding, they plan to send some of their top students to another competition in Australia at the University of New South Wales Sydney. These students will be chosen from the top finalists of the International Economics Olympiad and the World Economics Cup.
All the selection procedure happen in Romania and which include national tests and training to keep the process fair. Students who reach the final rounds will get advanced training from experts at top institutions. Travel and accommodation for the international competitions will be paid by the students families or sponsors.
Last year, Romanian students performed very well in international economics competitions. In 2025, they won 19 international medals and one special award, showing that young students in Romania are very good at business and economics.
More than 50 students have already completed a seven‑month training program this year with help of experienced teachers. This kind of long training helps students get ready for tough international challenges and gives them the confidence to compete with the best young experts from around the world.
Hosting the International Business and Finance Olympiad for the first time is a historic event for Romania. It gives many young people a chance to learn, grow, and show their skills on a global stage in business and finance.
