Toyota, a major car company, has announced it will recall about 162,000 pickup trucks in the United States because the multimedia screens inside the vehicles have some issues. The recall includes 2024 and 2025 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid trucks.
The company says that the multimedia display screens in these trucks can sometimes stuck on one image or go completely dark. This is a major problem because the screen shows the rearview camera video when the truck is in reverse gear. If the screen does not work properly, the driver may not see people or objects behind the truck, which can be dangerous.
Toyota said due to these defects the vehicles might not meet federal safety standards that require a working rearview camera. Screens are an important safety feature because many drivers rely on them to reverse safely in parking slots, driveways, and busy areas.
Truck owners who have one of the affected vehicles will be notified by Toyota around the end of March 2026. When owners receive the notice, they can take their truck to a Toyota dealership for a free repair. Toyota said it will update the software for the parking assist system for free.
The recall was announced on January 23, 2026, and covers both the Tundra and Tundra Hybrid models made for the 2024 and 2025 model years. Owners can also check whether their truck is in list of the recall by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on Toyota’s recall website or on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall page.
Toyota said the issue happens under specific conditions where the screen may get stuck or go black. When this happens, drivers are not able to see the rear camera view, which helps them to see what is behind them when they are reversing. This could make it harder to avoid hitting objects or people behind the vehicle.
This is not the only recall involving the Toyota Tundra in recent years. The truck has faced several recalls for various issues, including engine problems, display issues, and lighting defects. Ratio of recalls have increased as vehicles become more dependent on digital technology and software for safety features.
The rearview camera has become a required safety feature on many vehicles because it helps to avoid accidents. When it stops working, even for a short time, driver may not see what is behind the vehicle. Toyota’s recall is meant to fix this problem before it causes an accident or injury.
Owners of defected models have to wait for Toyota’s notice before going to dealership for the free fix. It is important not to ignore recall letters, because safety features like the rearview camera help to protect drivers from a big loss.

This recall shows how even modern features like screens and cameras can sometimes fail, and how companies fix problems quickly when safety is at risk.
